Lakdi ka pool

Strange sign outside a khaadi banddar.

Off NH7

Secunderabad

Hyderabad is famous for its rocks. The army has a sculpture that celebrates the landscape of this part of the Deccan.

Khairatabad

Bharat Mata Maha Aarathi.

Road No 8, Hyderabad

There are few crows in Hyderabad. In fact I didn't see a single one during my trip there. That's pretty strange for an Indian city of that size.

Saifabad

Street food of India.

Secundrabad/Hyderabad

We remember the places we visit by the movie posters that has been plastered in the city and the music we hear in the places we go. This is December 2018 in Hyderabad.

Khairatabad

Sensation, Khairatabad.

Telephone Bhavan Road

Interesting cover designs from the last century and much more to discover at this bookstall in the heart of Hyderabad. Was thrilled to see a sticker of Gangarams, Bangalore.

Swami Vivekananda seems to be a popular genre in Hyderabad. Hitler isn’t. My friend and photographer Sriharsha Vadlamani feels that Swami Vivekananda books are bought but no one reads them.

The Telephone Bhavan / BSNL Bhavan is an interesting building in the Charles Correa Style and will remind you of the LIC building or Vishweshwariah Tower in Bangalore.

Don’t forget to have chai at any of the Hyderabadi tea joints in the area. We went to Tehran opposite the secretariat.

Nampally

Identity seems to be important for Hyderabad. This is the caste supremacist side of the city.

Purana Pool, Hyderabad

HFL

High Flood Level or HFL that was reached on 22nd September, 1908 when the Musi river broke its banks. It was one of the biggest clamities that struck the street that led to the redesigning of the drainage in and around the city, the building of the tanks that controlled the waters and with the help of Dr M Vishveshwariah from neighbouring Mysore.

This was the Masiamma temple which is fortified and now taken over by right wing upper caste supremacist groups.

Tilak Road, Abids

The famous and endless Abids footpath bookmarket isn't probably as large as it used to be or the books are varied. But it survives. This was on a Sunday evening. The best time to visit in a Sunday Morning.
