Talakaadu, Mysore Dist.

Talakadu used to be known as "Gajaranya" until two hunters called Tala and Kaada found a Shivalinga here by accident, giving the place its current name. Shown here is an old carving of elephants that has been used on the retaining wall of one of the excavated pits. Talakadu is an old city, that is now completely covered in sand. However the temples are being excavated. Legend has it that locals have seen herds of elephants offering flowers to Shiva.
